contemporary furniture

contemporary furniture ... Walking into a newly decorated model home or home furniture store can be an overwhelming sensation of satisfaction. Rather than settling, you decided to have a piece of custom wood furniture created to your exact specifications, design aesthetic and personal style. Help keep that piece of custom furniture around for a long time (despite kids, pets, sun and time doing their worst) and follow these 4 simple care and cleaning tips!

Keep your wood furniture out of direct sunlight. Do you have wooden floors in your sunny living or bedroom? When was the last time you rearranged the recycled teak furniture? If you want to see a neat trick, scoot your bed, couch or dresser over a few feet and compare the recently uncovered floor with the rest of the room. Chances are the wood floor that was underneath your bedroom furniture is still dark and shiny and looks brand new. Meanwhile, the rest of your wood floor looks faded and dried. The same thing can happen to wood furniture that spends its life in direct sunlight!

Prevent dust buildup. Vacuuming your wood furniture with a dusting brush attachment gently removes dust from surfaces, preventing dust buildup for designer outdoor furniture. If you don't have the proper attachment, use a clean soft cloth or soft paper towels to pick up dust. If you feel like you need to use a polish, choose the polish that will work best on the finish (oil, lacquer, Polyurethane or painted) of your wood furniture. Use the same type of polish every time you dust to avoid polish smudges. Try to wipe in the direction of the grain of the wood whenever possible.

Don't set hot plates/pans directly on your wood furniture. Always using hot dish pads and coasters to protect your wood furniture from hot pots/pans/dishes. The heat from some dishes can be so intense that it can actually burn the top of your wooden table! You might be able to repair a small burn (like from a carelessly placed cigarette), but a large burn will ruin the finish of your custom table and it will have to be entirely refinished. Wipe up spills immediately. The wax in furniture polish will help protect the finish on your furniture from water for a short time, but letting spills sit for too long can leave behind ugly watermarks. Dark liquids like coffee and soda need to be cleaned up as quickly as possible to keep from staining your wood furniture.
